I'm not using the VST, I'm using a sequencer, but the answer is effectively the same, I believe. The knobs are assigned to either a Control Change (CC) number or to a real value in the synth...

Solved-ish

I played off a generator the other day and the soft knobs were effectively useless. I have concluded that the cause is dirty power. I'm going to replace my power adapter and will report back.

My Approach

The way I do it is assign a soft knob to a 'Control #' such at Control 9 or 15 or whatever then map that in the matrix. Your DAW will then send CC#9 or 15 or whatever to the soft knob. IIRC...

Update - It looks like maybe the envelopes are changing but just the label is incorrect. i think it's taking on the label of whatever the last turned 'shift' knob was.
