The Virus is competant but that doesn't mean to say it's the best choice for kicks. Other products like dedicated drum machines can achieve results faster which means your creative flow won't be interupted as much. It makes a big difference to have compression, harmonics, decay, pulse and pitch at your fingertips. Beware of the softsynth. The ones i've tried can't hold their dynamics when say, you shift the pitch down and the kicks end up sounding pathetic.
