I'm all for the stick shift, too. Be nice if you could adjust the length of time that it sticks in Config.
I'm going to piggy-back my request in here, too. Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to get it as much exposure as possible. I posted this to the mailing list, too:
Okay, after some experimenting, it seems to me that when a
VirusControl is up, neither the knobs on the TI nor their equivalent
functions in the Control output any MIDI control change messages.
That is (with Live), the MIDI in light goes up when I play notes on
the keyboard, but does not light up for knob movements.
I've set up a second MIDI track with it's input set to either the
Virus TI Synth, or the Virus TI MIDI, or the MIDI track that houses
the Virus Control. None of these produces any activity on their
meters, for, say, Filter Cutoff changes, done either in the Control
or on the synth.
What I want to do is (related to a prior post of mine): use my
BCR-2000 as a control surface for the VirusControl, and have the
BCR-2000 receive updates if changes to the same parameters are made
on either the synth or the VirusControl.
The reason I want this (you can skip this paragraph if you don't
care): I'd like to use the BCR-2000 as a control for the Virus, so
that I can see, and adjust, a few parameters (filter cutoff,
resonance, etc.) for multiple parts simultaneously, but have the
BCR's LEDs update accordingly if I adjust those parameters anywhere
else...since I'd obviously rather use the Virus or the VirusControl
when I'm working on a single part.
The problem: I can get the BCR to adjust the parameters I want, but
the BCR won't update if the changes are made elsewhere, since there's
no MIDI out messages for me to tap.
The solution:
1)I'm wrong that there's no MIDI out being sent. How do I get that
routed to the BCR-2000?
2)Change the VirusControl so that there are available MIDI out
messages. Live can tap the VirusControl track - from their manual:
"When routing MIDI in from another track, we are tapping the MIDI at
the latest possible stage, which is just before the instrument."
Except there doesn't seem to be any. You could even block them from
being sent out the USB...just put them in the track so that Live can
snag them for re-routing.
3)Or, conversely, when you look at the VirusControl in Live's
internal browser (meaning at the bottom, shift-tabbing from the clip
view), and click on the wrench, a list of assignable parameters is
opened. This list includes Filter Cutoff 1, Filter Resonance 1, Osc
Volume, and Soft Knobs 1-3 for all 16 parts, and then, at the end of
this lengthly list, 29 empty parameters marked "free". These
parameters are available for Live's Remote Mapping...which means the
BCR can be mapped to them, and they update the BCR! But...I want
other parameters available. This could be done two ways:
a)Alter the soft knobs so that they function the same as the other controls...then I could use the fact that they show up in point 3)
and map them to the controls I want. The problem being, as they now
function, they don't update the same way as, for example the Filter
Cutoff. Adjusting Filter Cutoff on the VirusControl or the Synth
updates the BCR, but adjusting Soft Knob 1 only updates the BCR-2000
through the VirusControl, not the Synth.
b)Is it possible to make those "free" parameters assignable? Then I would have 29 slots that I could use for whatever I liked.
b) is preferable to a) because it doesn't require that I tie up my soft knob assignments.
I know you guys probably have more pressing things to worry about
just yet, but maybe this would be incredibly easy to implement, and
you'd all love to stay up all night working on it for me. Wow, thanks!
