The actual clock speed isnt as important these days as the instructions a chip can run and the architecture of it. Thats the reason why the c2ds are slaying everything at the moment even at low clock speeds, they have a very advanced set of instructions and way the chip works stuff out internally is a lot more effecient than other designs.

Have you calculated how much your computer cost compared to a mac pro with xeon processors? Imo the 2.66GHz model is priced well.
