Yes you can turn it off. Before updating to latest drivers, uninstall the old one first.
This may help, also if the firmware stop during it's update. I had the same problem with earlier drivers on my TI Keyboard. So I installed some old ones and then installed the new driver. This worked for me at that time. You will find old drivers at
