How have you got around using instrument tracks with parameter controls ie filter changes/mod changes etc on a different channel to control the vst or hardware?
Yep, this is actually how most DAWs handle multi-timbral VSTis actually. The only way around it with the TI is to do all automation for all your channels on the VSTi track itself and then have MIDI channels with basic note, sustain, pitchbend type information.

Automating via MIDI CC is NOT sample accurate and timing does drift, which was really noticable. Going to VSTi parameter automation fixed this.

Other VSTis like Massive, Sylenth and Zebra2 are not multi-timbral, so it's just 1 instrument track with all MIDI, automation, audio effects .etc
