For layering, the patches must be set to the same MIDI channel.
- In Multi mode, press Shift+Edit to enter Multi Edit mode
- Press the cursor buttons (< or >) until you get to the MIDI channel parameter
- Set all parts you want layered to the same MIDI channel (e.g. 1)

In Multi Edit mode, scroll to the screen with Bank and Program (or is it Patch?) parameters. This is where you select the patch for current part.
