ProTools/Rewire-Reason Questions.....
Hi all,
I have a couple questions for anyone out there with a PT/Reason combination DAW. I am a Cubase SX/Reason user, and went to help a friend set up his system, comprised of a Digi002r and Reason 2.5
In Cubase SX, when I 'activate' my rewire channels, it sets up corresponding auudio tracks within SX. I then patch whatever Reason instruments into the Reason Rewire interface, and thier audio is sent to the Rewire audio channels in SX.
In PT, I was only able to set up a stereo master channel, that took it's feed from Reason's main L/R outputs. This meant I had to set up a MIXER in Reason, and run my reason instruments through it. So all of my Reason instruments were being patched through a single stereo channel in PT, and not individual channels per instrument as in SX
My question is.......Can I set up more ReWire channels in PT???? And how do I do this???
I am pretty much a novice with PT, and it is just a case of different program, different environment, which I am not used to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers,
Jase

Apaprently not... according to the digidesign site...

Here's How to setup either the full version of Reason or Reason Adapted for Pro Tools LE:
1) Launch a Pro Tools session.
2) Launch the Reason application. (See below***)
3) For Pro Tools LE, create either a mono or a stereo aux. input track. (File Menu > New Track). For TDM systems, create either a mono or stereo audio track. (File Menu > New Track). Make sure the volume is up on either the aux or audio track.
4) Instantiate the Reason RTAS plug-in insert on an aux or audio track in Pro Tools (TDM systems must use and audio track).
5) When the ReWire window opens, select the proper Rewire channel from Reason that you want routed to that audio track - For a stereo track choose: Mix L - Mix R. Or for a mono track choose: Mix L or Mix R.
6) Create a MIDI track. (File Menu > New Track).
7) Set the output of the MIDI track to the Reason sound module you will be using. You MUST create the MIDI track after you have already instantiated the Reason plug-in on a track; otherwise, there will not be any Reason selections for the output of your MIDI track.
8) Press the record enable button on the MIDI track.
9) Play the keyboard, you should get a signal into both the MIDI and audio/aux. tracks and hear Reason play.
Troubleshooting if you don't hear Reason play:
1) If you get signals into both the MIDI and audio/aux. tracks, but you don't hear anything, try setting the input of the MIDI and audio/aux. tracks to "No Input".
2) Try a different octave on the keyboard, as drum sounds may only use specific notes on the keyboard.
3) Make sure you have an instrument loaded into the sound module in Reason.
Please note: Only the first 2 ReWire channels can be used on a stereo track. For information on how to route Reasons mono outputs to a stereo track in Pro Tools, please see Answerbase #27105.

How can I bring 2 mono outputs from Reason via Rewire into a Stereo Audio track in Pro Tools using a multi-mono plug-in?
1. Create a Stereo Audio track (TDM) or Aux track (LE) in Pro Tools
2. Instantiate the multi-mono Reason Rewire plug-in on the insert of that track.
3. In the plug-in window in the upper right corner, click on the 'link' button to disable linking (it looks like 2 overlapping circles - when active they're orange on a white background, black on grey when disabled.).
4. Click on the box to the left of the link button - this will now allow you to select the Left or Right side of the stereo track and assign a Rewire input to it using the drop down box next to 'Reason' in the main portion of the Rewire plug-in window.

Thanks for the reply!!!!!
At least it confirms that I was doing things the right way.......although I must say, it is pretty shithouse that PT wont let you have multiple ReWire audio tracks running.......
Maybe this will be resoved in a future update......but for now, I am so glad I am running SX, but I feel sorry for my friend.
Thanks again for the reply, very thorough and quick!!!! Appreciate it....

yeah, the implentation does seem kind of crappy which is particularly suprising seeing as you get a cut down version of Reeason included when you buy Pro-Tools now.
Your frined could use Cubase with the 002 but it would be kind of annoying to have to buy cubase when he has already shelled out for the Digi.

He might just do that anyway, as he is used to the nice MIDI capabilities within SX......Also for myself, as I am thinking of getting an Mbox, just so that I have PT.....it is a usefull program to know, as it is in such wide use nowadays.
Thanks again!
