In multimode, you could adjust the part volume for each midi channel in VC.

Perhaps your soundcard inputs are +4.....is there a way you can change them to -10???

+4 should be way louder than -10. a couple of things i noted. even with the master volume maxed on my virus b, part volume maxed it played through fruity loops mixer relatively quiet. i had to boost the volume on the mixer quite alot and in some cases had to add a parametric EQ to whack up the volume even more.
ive been doing this since i got the virus thinking it was normal :\ although some peeps here seem to suggest its not? ill screw around later on after i finished uni since im back in soton with all my gear again.
incidentally, i know you dont need a preamp between the virus and your audio interface but would this help? running my guitar through the virus input produces a very quiet, blurry sound. i have to boost the signal over 20 dB to get it up to a level where its audible and even then on floop's mixer it isnt clipping according to the dB meters - not by a long shot. the sound is very blurry too. i dont remember having problems like this when i ran my guitar (preamped) through to a 4 track recorder.

BZZZZ!!!!! Wrong....
+4dBu and -10dBV.....notice how each has a different letter after it? And 0dBu does not equal 0dBV
If your soundcard inputs are at +4dBu, and you send it an unbalanced, -10dBV signal (ie from a synth) you will get a lower input level.
Try it...
