I tried the demo last night,
It has one milion functions but it didnt impress me even a bit.
It cant even be compered to low end hw VAs IMO.

Pretty boring synth...
Though if put through distort?on and lfo it turns quite interesting...

yeah, I wasn't too impressed by the demo songs that they posted, but I was wowed by the fact that it had 6 oscillators - that's a whole lot of waveforms.

by the way, have any of you tried out Albino 2? Any good? The demos for that sound a bit better than blue.

I have Albino 2, don't ever use it. If you want to check out a good title by Linplug, check out RMIV...I find it indespensable for roughing in great sounding drums.

I haven't checked out the demo for Blue yet, but I don't really think it has much to offer me. So many of these feature-laden soft synths sound great and can be useful, but I'm not sure where the benefit comes from having 60 VA's that can all make more or less the same sounds. You can have a thousand oscillators, but unless you have a specific need for each one, you'll just end up with a wall of mush that doesn't allow you to hear the intricacies of any of them.

For most of my synth duties I'm almost always using the Virus or Absynth. It's my mentality that if you have a couple great sounding, full-featured synths, and know them inside and out, you'll get better results than by buying every new Johnny-come-lately synth that makes its way into the market. I'm not saying that the Virus and Absynth are the only two decent synths out there, but for me they complement my workflow and allow me to get done the task at hand. I like the Ion, Nord Lead series, Moogs (obviously), and a bunch of others, but I tend to get the best results using the quality gear that I know the best.

However, I'm not doing techno or trance or another kind of music that relies almost entirely on synths to create the sound, my stuff is mainly guitar-driven rock, so your mileage may vary...

I got a free copy of RMIV via purchasing Tracktion 2. I am anxious to get into it and check it out, especially with a good reference like yours.

I hear ya. I am limiting myself now too for the same reasons. It is not good to be a jack of all trades, master of none...same goes for instruments.

How is the album coming along Panopticon???
