Is it the fan, or the computer in general?
I don't know about the g5's, but on my (now defunct) g4, the fan would get noisy if there was a lot of dust and crud down there........some canned air always did the trick.

no these g5 power pc processors run very hot so every little thing triggers the fans on mine. It works well but just noisy at times. I'm selling it anyways because I want the new intel.

No it's more of an electrical noise. Like a processor hum, and a beep every so often.

Yeah, I get that sometimes.... There was something called "CHUD" tools I think where you can disable something that supposedly gets rid of the noise. Mostly, I put it down to bad earthing and switch Audiowire PCI ports to my soundcard. Generally does the job

I would drill a small hole in the wall between your room and the room next to your, put the computer there (making sure it gets enough ventilation),run all the cables thru the hole and seal it with silicon.
Noise problem is over.
I have a FW interface so its makes the situation alot easyer,All I had to do is to run a FW cable, screen vga cable, mouse&screen (which you can eliminate if you have wireless or bluetooth).
