Default Steps to Upgrade for noobie

Hey All

I wonder can someone let me know the exact steps to upgrade to OS2.0 please. I have downloaded and extracted the file, but... do I turn on the Virus before I execute the upgrade file, or leave it turned off and wait instructions?

Sorry for the noobiness.... all advice greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Disclaimer: I had some trouble myself (thanks to NIS 2007 and Windows Driver Signing) and I am talking about Windows not Mac.

You can safely run the installer even with the TI plugged in to the USB. It will replace the older files, offer to install the USB driver (although you can safely skip it as it is not newer than 1.2.4). Then it will start the firmware update. There's nothing that can go wrong...

Having said that, I had problems because Norton Internet Security was blocking pop-up ads - and I think it was treating the unsigned driver warnings as pop ups. I suggest you tell Windows to allow unsigned drivers without prompting - get to Control Panels, double click System, click the Hardware tab, click Driver Signing and select "Ignore" and OK.

Cheers,
B

Can I post this response, It is slightly different form what access say but it has worked on every update so I use this as best practise.

Before updating, Go to add or remove programs.
Remove the TI Driver then remove the TI software. Then do a reset on the PC. During Uninstall the prog will ask you to disconnect your virus, leave it that way.

Then Run the new updater, plug in the synth when it asks etc, the update should complete with no issues and no errors should occour. Then once complete it will go into the firmware update mode.

The installing without removing things may cause problems during various upgrades as sometimes programers may try and remove the wrong component, where as if you do it my way it is removing using the same software that put it there so it should be safe.

This is just my working practice and I have none of the issues that most do.

Cheers
Kris

Thanks all, I have upgraded now.

I do have a few issues, but nothing major... just when using a driver other than the Virus Audio. All my other gear works with my external audio device, but not quite perfectly with the Virus.

Weirdness indeed.

My naivety and ignorance with Cubase et al for sure and so I have an audio engineer visiting my place for a days consulting soon, we'll get it sorted I'm sure.

In fact the TI driver has not changed from 1.2.4. The installer tells you so and allows you to skip this step if you wish. If I had skipped that step, I would not have struck the problem a few have reported with the hanging about the time the unsigned driver prompt should appear.

I found this upgrade a particularly well-behaved one. Things can go wrong even with the best procedures, so well done Access!

Cheers,
B
