Default Access Virus TI Latency

I just got my hands on an Access Virus TI and I love it. Seems I am having some trouble with latency though. In the past, I have used all soft synths and never encountered this kind of problem. When I play back a single 4/4 kick against anything I do in the virus, it always seems something is off no matter how I position things. I have tried using direct monitoring on the virus and using the control software. Currently I am using a Sonica Labs DAW with a 3.0 Intel Core2 Duo, 3.25 Gigs of Ram. I use Ableton Live 6 as my sequencer. Input/Output latency is set at 40ms. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
