Talking Ello

Hello everyone... I just received my TI desktop today in the mail. It came a day earlier than UPS estimated.... a great surprise!

I am in love with this synth already. Sounds amazing, and the integration is great. I spent the last few nights reading the user manual online, and taking notes, so I could dive in when I got it.

I have some of my old music on my website (about 3-4 years old now) which was all done using soft synths and various hand-sampled audio.

I can't wait to learn this like the back of my hand, and really get out of it what it has to offer.

I already have a few questions, but I'll save those for a more relevant thread.

Anyways, good to meet you all, and I'll be seeing ya 'round!

edit/ps: I got a scratch'n'dent TI... it was about $500 bucks cheaper than normal, but included the warranty etc. I was a little nervous about what cosmetic defect there would be, and how severe... but to my delight, it's a BARELY noticable bump on the edge of one of the wood panels. It actually took me several minutes to find it.... Also, it didn't come in it's original box. Needless to say, I feel like I made a great steal!

I'm great thanks, work is going really well and I'm still able to commit a lot of time to making music. How are things with you? What capacity are you doing music in these days, I take it your course is finished now? How did that go in the end?

I'm loving the TI too. Only got it just before xmas, so still learning its nuances. I'm using it with Ableton Live 7 (which I'm also having to learn as I stopped using Live back at version 3). I'm currently living at two addresses at opposite ends of the country so needed a setup small enough to transport on the back of my motorbike. Snow and a Netbook running Ableton (mainly just as a sequencer) seemed a great combination and so far, touch wood, appears to ideal. Drum machines/samplers at either address mean that I have limited what I have to transport. I managed to justify it to myself thanks to the TI's ability to function as a decent portable soundcard, so saving me that extra cost/space.

What are you using these days? How is the new CD coming along?

Awesome man!

I'm doing pretty good too. I graduated in 06, worked in the schools recording studios for a year, and then decided to move out here to San Francisco. I'm coming up on one year here in February. I love it! After being surrounded by music for 6 years, I decided to just get a day job, so I can focus my personal time on the album... so I'm working as a barista at a cool little cafe in the city. I work 5:30am-1:30, so I then have the rest of the day/night to come home and work on my music. I don't have a set date on when I expect the album to be done, but it's coming along. It was kind of interrupted by the whole move out here, and other various life factors, but I'm pretty much working on it like a second job now. I'll keep you updated for sure

I got my TI as a scratch n dent and saved 550 dollars... otherwise I don't think I could have justified the money at the time... the only cosmetic flaw is a bump on one of the corners... barely noticable... I made a steal! I had been using just my nord modulars, but for better workflow I felt I needed a "go-to" kind of workhorse synth, and free up the nords for more specialized stuff.

Anyways, I gotta run to work now... but we shall talk more soon!
