Default Virus Control not saving state when exiting

I've just reinstalled my studio brain, from Windows Vista 32 to Windows 7 64.

I'm using exactly the same versions of all my music software, including the DAW (Ableton Live 8.0.9) and all plugins. So I'm using 32 bit software, including the latest Virus control (32 bit version of 4.0.2.01).

It all works perfectly well except for Virus Control. It totally forgets the outputs configured (reverts to 2 stereo outs instead of 3), forgets that I told it a million times not to show me the bloody "welcome to virus os 4" screen. The patches are stored and recalled correctly, but those using USB3 out obviously revert back to USB1 out.

So on each DAW start I need to carefully say "no" again to the welcome screen, configure all outs etc.

This wasn't happening on my previous install, remember I am running exactly the same software on everything but the OS. I haven't updated a single VST.

I assume Virus Control is unable to write on a config file somewhere, even though I am running Live as administrator btw or other (old) plugins won't work.

Any help appreciated as this is driving me around the bend!!

Thanks!

Maybe you should try with the x64 version of the Virus software?
Works like a charm with Cubase 5 x64 and Win 7.

Have you tried running Live with compatibility settings for XP SP3, Vista etc? Between that and the Run as Admin thing, I haven't found anything that wouldn't work except old hardware that had no drivers available beyond XP 32bit.

I'm afraid that's not possible as there's no 64 bit version of Ableton Live plus all plugins I have (and need) are 32 bit. I'm stuck on 32 bit daw for the time being. The Virus package I installed is the Windows 64 version, which includes both the 32 and 64 bit VSTs.

No, haven't tried that yet but will do as soon as I'm back home. Will report back
