Turning them on and off frequently is worse.

LCD Burn-in?
I've always understood the surge on the power supply when powering up and down is bad for the electronics.
However, what about the LCD Display? Will it 'burn in' like the old screens of the '80s?

Very likely not. I'm not even sure is that burning even possible on modern LCD's. Homever to get your screen burned you'll have to keep the device on for a really long time with same image on the display. I kept my Virus on for quite long days and there were no sings of screen burns.
What I mean by keeping on your equipment is that you keep them on for a day, not a 7/24. For example when you start doing something with your gear you power it up and keep them on even if you wouldn't use them and turn them off in the evening. And computer can be on for 24/7, since hard disks and other mechanical equipment are on quite big stress on startup.

i usually leave eveything on for the whole day if i power it up in the morning. although i turn my monitors off (speakers), because in the manual it sugests to turn them off if you are not going to be using them for a while.

how about this then....
a mate of mine in ausi has a fair bit of gear and instead of turning everything on by thier individual switches, he leaves all the on/off switches set to on, then he just turns them on and off by unplugging/plugging them straight from the wall! includin amps, monitors, mixing console and everything else!
is that bad for gear?

yeah i also know a guy who does almost similar, everything is set to on (rack, amp, mixer...) and everything is controlled by only one on/off switch.
i think this is bad for active monitors, at least may be the mk2, in the manual (yes i'm a manual addict hehe) they say they should be the last ones to turn on.

Hmm yes I would say that is bad.....b'cos you are likely to get an energy spike (particularly when you activate power hungry equipement all at the same time)
