Default Digi 002 Compatable with other software?

Hi,

I was just wandering if you could use the Digi 002 hardware to record into other DAW software? For example, could I use the preamps on the 002, to record into Cubase SX, or Logic?

Thanks alot!

Jason

No you can't, to use the desk you have to have pro-tools running.

But then, why would you want to?

Thanks for the reply,

I have heard that the MIDI engine in 'Tools is not quite as good as in Cubase/Logic, Having never used ProTools I dont know for sure. Also, the 002 only comes with ProTools LE, which is limited to 32 tracks, whereas Cubase/Logic will let you run as many tracks as your computer will handle.

If there are any ProTools users out there that can correct me if i am wrong, or point me to some of the other benefits of changing to ProTools, I would love to hear from you.

Cheers,

Jason

I believe, but I would have to check at home, that LE is only limited to playing 32 tracks at once and that you can have up to 128 tracks. I would have thought that 32 tracks would be enough for anyone

Also, you can have 256 midi tracks. I'm no expert on cubase etc. but the midi in pro-tools seems fine to me. How have you heard it is not as good?

All that said, you can use the 002 as a stand alone mixer, but would need to record into your computer via a soundcard if that was the case.

If you were only going to use it as a stand alone mixer, there are much better products at lower prices available.

Ahhhh.......... In that case, does the 002 Rack ALSO act in standalone mode????

And when you say you can use the 002 in standalone mode, basically that means that plugging it into your soundcard would enable you to actually record into another software DAW????? Right?????

Cos basically, just to have that as an option makes the 002 family that much more appealing to SX/Logic users

Yes, standalone mode means you can use the digi as a plain mixing desk, but you would then only have 8 channels. The rack version doesnt have standalone mode, there would be no way to adjust levels etc.

I'd really have to say that if all you want is a digital mixing desk then you will get more bang for your buck elsewhere, the digi is only worth it if you are going to use pro-tools.

I keep reading about pro-tools not having good midi sequencing capabilities, but I would disagree. I can't help but feel that people saying this may have been using an old version as version 6 seems very fully featured and easy to use.

damn, just looked at the manual for the latest version of the asio drivers for the digi002 (6.4) and they allow other programs to use the mixer via firewire for input and output on all the channels, so you would be fine.

I sure this didn't use to be the case.

sorry about the misinformation.

No worries (Re:mis-information) Ledge!

I was only doing a little research for a mate who was having some troubles deciding on how best to upgrade his set-up......As for me, Im looking forward to adding some DSP grunt to my system in the form of TC Powercore, or UAD-1. Very tempting indeed!

Cheers for all the feedback!

Jase.
