Virus ADCs
Hello, guys!
2 days ago I've decided to connect my Nord Lead 3 directly to Dynaudio BM6A monitors to see how my soundcard (Echo MIA MIDI) affects the sound, when converting analog sound to digatal one. The difference was very noticable!!! Sound became really brighter and clearer! So I even become upset.
I gonna buy Virus TI and connect my NL3 to Virus Inputs. So, I have a question. Does Virus TI has ADC good enough to minimize audible difference between original and converted sound?

Sure? Why? Have you compared?
Or you believe, if Virus is expensive, then it has ADC better than in 250$ soundcards? ))

I Have compared the Virus C analog outs to the ProTools HD Virus Indigo plugin. I Recorded both, the analog outs of virus C and the analog outs of the ProTools 192 interface to a Sony PCM-R500 DAT recorder, using the same sound presets (the presets are EXACTLY the same on the desktop version of the virus and on the indigo plugin). The result was that the sound of the plugin was exactly the same with the sound of the desktop, only the desktop had a bit more noise (truly only a bit. so little that it is unnoticeable). I can imagine that due to better convertors of the forthcoming V.TI, the quality of the protools output will match the quality of the TI.
Keep in mind that the protools hardware costs around $11.000!

I wouldnt be too concerned about this really.......just write good music and you'll be sweet!
The standard of ADC's in the project studio range are much of a muchness......it's only when you get to the real expensive, high end converters that you'll notice a difference.
As far as the Ti goes, Im sure it would be about the same standard as any of your run of the mill mid range project gear. They wouldnt spend a fortune on ADC's otherwise they would have to charge more for the Ti
Jeez.....Tuesday night and Im Maggot 8O

The VIRUS TI also comes with SP/DIF (44.1khz/48khz) digital I/O as standard.

Thanks to all for replies! ))
I know Virus specs. I want to know quality of analog-to-digital trasformations because "24-bit A/D converters" says nothing to me.
)))
My Echo can work at 96000 kHz 24 bit too, but quality is not good for me even at 96000. If I connect my synths directly to monitors I HEAR the difference.
If you have good monitors and a soundcard of 150-300 USD - check yourself. You'll be surprised.
Virus will be my only hope until I get a new soundcard with GOOD convertors.

I often process external sounds through my VC and there is a difference, but it's not so bad. Usually the filters help me forget that minor loss. I think there is always a slight difference when going AD, no matter what card or ADs you're on (although a top end card does help a bit).
I run an analogue desk which goes directly to my monitors and unfortunately I hear a difference all the time when I record to audio. Analogue summing can help as well as the many good plugins these days. Just something we have to deal with I guess.

What desk do you run HC?
I have to say, the production work I've heard you do is so very impressive. I'll be a happy man when my mixes sound like yours
