Default My new laptop is a...

DELL!

Inspiron 9000.

Generic Specs:

Intel Core Duo Centrino 1830
17.1" Screen!
Integrated speakers and sub-woofer!
2 GB RAM
80 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
DVD Reader/Writer
4-USB 2
1 Firewire 2
Wireless NIC
Integrated Video (Poop!)
XP Home SP2
Etc...

Will use for grad school next year...but for now...Tracktion 2, Wusikstation v3, Lots of Samples, Virtual DJ 3.x.

Need to get a Firewire interface, needs to be inexpensive though, maybe a used Presonus Fire Box on eBAY.

At any rate, it gets here next week, Yahoo!

Dell's outlet gives some really sick discounts on notebooks here in the U.S. It's not a top of the line system, but its more than I need and its the most I can afford.

Cheers!

-Alex

Nice indeed!

I am on Ausa's HP Pavilion DV8000 (AMD something CPU, all maxed out with RAM/HD and some custom "mods" to it and a 19" widescreen!).

I bloody love laptop's, I used to hate them but realised how much.. superior they are in the sense that they don't take any space whatsoever (well, almost no space) and nowaday isn't that expensive and have same "power" than a "regular" PC.

I've had a few beers and getting abit dissy!

Congrats mate!

19" screen?!

That's huuuuge!

Yep, power is not an issue with notebooks now-a-days.

My old laptop was a Pentium 1 GHz with 128 MB RAM! S-L-O-W!

This new one will allow me to get all of my music off the family desktop PC and into my new portable one.

I should've saved for a bigger hard drive but I figure for $100 I can get a 250 GB, 7200 RPM firewire2/usb2 external hard drive.

80 GB is enough to keep my OS and my sequencer and core VSTs on. But it is a 7200 RPM drive so I can record onto it with no problems even if I don't have an external drive.

Ultimately I want to use this for my mobile DJ gigs and for my DAW. I must face it, I am only a hobbyist musician. I've never made a dollar selling a song, but I have made money playing music for at parties and restaurants. So, this is my new DJ machine AND my "ultra-mini-teeny-tiny studio."

I also just bought this new DJ mixer:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...USB?sku=808455

It is a 19" rackmount model and allows 2 channels of input from USB cables, thereby eliminating a firewire soundcard as an interface to a DJ mixer.

In a few months I'll buy this:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ler?sku=241533

It allows full control of my DJ software without use of a mouse. It basically makes the PC DJ experience very much like using dual CD players, but allows for the full range of additional software control and FX.

Then I just need to spring for a case and I can slap it all together and hit the road!

No beer for me today, Bro.

I have a MONSTER sinus headache. Awful!!!

Thanks, Doc!

Yep, "Alex Claus" strikes again!

Let's face it. No one can shop for a gear junkie except themselves...or another gear junkie...but we gear junkies don't buy gear for other people...that would be ridiculous!
