Default filter offset

Can someone explain filter offset. I read in the s.o.s. article that cutoff 2 is not an additional filter & is only an offset filter. Thanx guys.

It is another, seperate filter - Filter 2 - but it uses a cutoff relative to the cutoff value of Filter 1...

... You might initially think that it's a slightly obscure concept to get your head around, but looking more closely into the workings of it and thinking about it laterally it actually works out to be a lot more flexible!

You really need to know about the relationship of Filter 1 to Filter 2, though. Ie. if they're in series, parallel, or split, in addition to filter-types selected (lowpass, high-pass, etc.) as the filter Cutoff2 control works in slightly different ways in each mode.

The manual explains it very well! It'll lift a veil once you understand how it all works.

there is a Link option you can set to Off in the Filter menu page to use it as a totally seperate filter (not as an offset filter).
