Default Creating 808 and 909 drum kits

I have worked out how to do a fairly confincing (and very powerful) kick drum - but snares, rides and hi hats seem much harder to do. Has anyone had any experience of creating sharp, snappy electronic snares like the 909 one? (virus b)

If you need the most "real" sounding 909 samples, i reccomend rebirth.

shouldnt this topic be in general since it has nothing to do with a virus.

Er, no, he's using a Virus (B). If we're being anal, the synthesis section would be more pertinent.

Apparatus, check at the bottom of this page:

...and for kick/bass drum synthesis, check the top of the next page:

Many thanks for the links. Lets not get anal about putting this post in such specific categories - I am using a virus b and generally discussing how to use it.

I spotted a patch last night that sounded very close to a 909 - I am going to try to 'reverse engineer' it to see how it was made, as I heard doing that is a good way to see how sounds were built up. (Reverse engineering tips??)

SoundDiver, for one. Everything, all the knobs and stuff, are displayed graphically.
