Default Browsing through catagory patches via hardware (Virus TI)?

I'm trying to figure out how to browser through the category patches found on the TI plug software on the hardware itself? Just so I can fly through them without having to double click the next patch on the plug.

Hit the 'search' button & choose a cat with the first soft knob, then use the value -+ buttons to go through all the patches in the cat.

An alternative to flicking through them using the Value +/- buttons is holding down Shift and turning Softknob3.

Default Favourites category

On the subject of hardware browsing, I think it's the case that Category is a patch parameter (each patch has two Category slots) that you can edit but that then requires saving the whole 'new' patch in a RAM bank. Unless I've got this all wrong or am missing something obvious, I can't make easy use of category designations Favourites 1/2/3 ("Ooh, I really like ROM P 67 and would like to remember it as a favourite") without having to save a favoured patch into RAM. I had thought that designating 'favourites' would just be handled as a separate index from proper sound parameters, but it seems not. Or...?
