White (House again :) )
Hey, got a new tune! Made it almost entirely without my PC (only used for sequencing and recording). Don't know if it is considered finished...
I am not sure about the master either, therefore I've done 2 versions for you to check out:
http://www.dezyne.de/GeN%20-%20White%20(1).mp3 << First master
http://www.dezyne.de/GeN%20-%20White%20(2).mp3 << Second master
Could you please tell me which of the above works better for you?
Otherwise just criticize the song if you want to... let me know what I could have done better... Would be nice to get some resonance on this track from people who are into electronica
tnx

Hi Gen
Prefered the 2nd one as it was more up front.....although a little tiring on the ears! A bit bright maybe...
Ok I dont say this lightly...but I really think this track has commercial potential. The best Ive heared from u in my opinion. The track starts well. By about 50 secs in though...I was hoping to hear it go in a different direction....but just kept going on grrrr....with minimal variation. Im not sure about putting all that cut up stuff at the end...to me it just doesnt quite feel right. I find it difficult to make a proper suggestion to you....b'cos I myself am so noobie to music making.....but im just giving u my opinion for what its worth.
Umm....maybe HC or someone could articulate it better in musical jargon.
Suffice to say...I like the track

This seems to be looped. Really, really, really nasty loop end cuts (0:22, 0:30, etc). The strings are too loud (starts at 1:47) and don't seem to fit on the track. Same loop over and over again with some processing from time to time + overdriven compressor. This track is not my cup of tea. This also lacks the groove you've had on your previous tracks.

Modified the song a bit (with your comments in mind). Hopefully it has more clarity this time (been fiddling with eq for ages... ). Looping should be correct now, too. Removed the strings... etc.
Again two masters, one with more oooomph (*looks over to Juho* ), the other one being more "clean":
http://www.dezyne.de/StarLux%20-%20Freeze.mp3 << The oooomph one
http://www.dezyne.de/StarLux%20-%20Freeze%20(less%20is%20more%20mix).mp3 << The "clean" one
Tnx for your comments so far!

(StarLux - Freeze.mp3)
What a crazy track!
Nice beats as ever too GeN.
On 1:47 I hear a piano-ey noise on every beat. Sounds very wrong for this track imho. Perhaps if it didn't change note...
Excellent stuff. Keep up the good work.

Not a bad track, but no where near the class of your last one mate.
Drums - Like the drums in the intro. They seem to be well gated and have a nice groove. Everything has a fair bit of oomph although the compression on that kick could be tamed down a bit - seemed to squash the life out of it a bit.
Main loop - Didn't like it at all. It gets a little too much after a while, not to mention it's very obvious.
Most of the sounds (added to that loop) are nice though. Compostion relies too much on that loop, but I like the chopped section.
Thanks for the listen Gen. Keep them comin.

That will be a tough sample to clear......
I have a white label that I have posted for you to listen to. I think it is a benchmark, as they use the sample quite well, and the production is quite tight. Check it out. It is from vinyl so a bit crackly and distorted, but you will get the idea

If that link doesnt work, you can go to the website:
http://www.24bit192k.com/id3.html and listen there....(Bottom of the page)
I think your take on it is quite cool......a bit rough, but I like it. Keep em comin'
Good luck!

So many late replies... 8O
Tnx pDc and Hollowcell! The piano-ey sound is already gone, don't know why I put it there. I am currently working on a "new" version, with more variation. Also I hope to get away from the loop a bit more...

Why would it be tough?

Tnx, workin on the roughness, too... although the new version will be a bit more "grungy", but I don't think you meant that with "rough".

Exactly what I meant...Grungy, rough, raw.......Punk even! This is what I like most about it......
I know that Grandmaster's "white lines" uses the same sample, whose is it originally?? It's not Grandmasters???? Or is it.......
Because you use so much of the sample, and it is easily recognizable, if you did manage to get permission to use it, and released it commercially, I dont think you would see alot after paying royalties......but then again, I dont even know if you are going to release it commercially.
You may be better off selling it as a white label......a bootleg. Many "Big" electronica artists do this......and everyone knows who it is, but they get away without having to pay royalties, and make a fair bit too, selling to DJ's and the like....
