How to do this...
anyone can explain how is this thing -Keith Hillebrandt is talking about- can be achieved?

[...]a lot of strange, evolving drones and a lot of envelope-triggered loops, which were basically noises that I ran through my [ARP] 2600 and then had the envelopes triggered by drum loops. That would create strange peaks and valleys, kind of giving you the feel of drum loops but it didn't sound anything like your standard off-the-shelf CD_ROM drum loops.[...]

You need something with input and some kind of sequencer. Maybe the Arp 2600 vst with lots of computing power. The Elektron Machinedrum does this as well. You basically need to trigger envelopes with a sequencer and send inputs (the drum sample) into it.

Could always use a gate with a variable (ie. level-sensing) side-chain.
Tweak the attack, release and hold values (effectively an "envelope"), then hook the sidechain up to a sequenced drum machine, or similar, and run whatever audio you want to be processed through the gate's inputs....
I'm just going by what you said, I haven't heard the actual track.

Not to sound too critical, but there needs to be some more manual reading going on...
As I'm sure Juho knew, there's an envelope follower built in to the virus. Time to maybe dig a little deeper into our equipment?

Yep, that's really cool. I use a master keyboard to trigger the Virus via Midi, when using the audio ins. It's great as it tightens/tidies up your Virus' reverb tails very nicely, leaving space for other things in the mix.
OT, Hi Pan, did you ever get to send that Distressor mp3 to my mail? Was desperate to hear it and maybe post it up. (my email is gobo @ dsl . pipex . com without the spaces.) thnx m8
