Default how practical is TI for drums?

I'm thinking of getting a TI and have searched up and down on this forum, and others looking for an opinion on the practicality of using one of these lovely little boxes paired with a sequencer as a drum machine.

Has anyone here done this using the multi-patch mode with separate midi channels to any great extent?

In theory, it could be so much more versatile than buying a Vermona DRM or something similar to use along side my MPC4k.

Anyone care to comment? I'm just really hoping to hear a bit more about the idea than I've been able to find in the previous threads.

thanks so much in advance for your input

for sure it has some drum & percussion patches ...
but would definitly recommend a sampler.

the reason: you cannot load any samples - just patches.

and i think sampled percussions sound better then synthesized ones.

The thing is that I'm not looking for a sampler...I'm looking for a synthesizer...

Hi Radam, you've certainly got all the sampling power in the MPC. I guess you are asking if the TI can make synth drum sounds better than anything else. Its extremely flexible:-

* Fast and step-free envelopes, adjustable slope for log/exp curves
* Dual filters with good routing options
* Oscillators can start at any phase, essential for kicks
* An individual chain of effects for each part

What else can do that and is a whole synth as well? A Nord or Radias would have a different character, but are much less complex and offer less to manipulate. I suspect you might not end up playing the drum parts off the TI, but sampling them into the MPC. But either way, I think that only an analog modular would give you more sound abilities.

Cheers,
B
