Default Updating Virus C OS

Hi,

I just bought a virus c off ebay and ive been trying very unsuccessfully to update the OS to 6.5...

I have read through every (even vaguely) related post on the forum and tried all of the software i can (freeloader, sounddriver, wmp) with no success...

I get a SE icon on the virus so the system is obviously recieving some data but it appears while the midi update file is playing and then disappears afterwards... nothing else happens...

I have made sure all of my settings are what i understand to be right.

My system settings currently are as follows:

Midi Dump Tx - Total
Midi Dump Rx - Verify
Global Channel - 1
Panel -Int & midi
Clock RX - Disable
Device ID - 1
LoPage - SysEx
HiPage - SysEx
Mem Protect - Off

What am i missing?

The virus is just in standard mode, ie not in update mode (store key on startup) although i have tried applying the midi file in that mode too with no success?

I have also tried using all of the midi i/o devices i have, namely a motu 828mk2 a novation zero sl and a m-audio axiom, in all cases i get the same result, little se on the virus and nothing else?!

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly apreciated... i am running out of hair to pull out and the wife will probably leave if im bald!

Cheers,

Tom.

LOL!

It seems by coming on the forum I have somehow encouraged the virus to work...

It is now downloading the update!

Thanks for all the help I would have got!

Default OS update of Indigo 2, nothing happens, just SE in display

I have the exact same problem as explained in this thread:

Trying to load OS 6.5. Indigo 2 showing SE in display so obviously receiving something, but nothing else happens. No counting or anything that is stated in the manual.

Setup: Sonar X1, Windows XP Pro 32bit, Presonus Audiobox USB interface.

What am I missing?

I have now tried again for a few hours. Using my M-Audio ProjectMix I/O today, and today it started counting in the sysex immediately!

But - it still does not work. Sometimes it stops saying block was missed, sometimes everything goes black, sometimes it just stops counting and hangs, sometimes it says block incomplete at the very end of the midi file...

There is no logic in this. It seems completely random! I have tried in Sonar in different tempos, I have tried in Windows Media Player, I have tried the complete file, and I have tried chunks. Nothing seems to be better than anything else...

Then finally everything went through. And guess what. I managed to double click the store key and the update failed...

So I'm trying again, and it still randomly stops wherever it likes.

I must say, this way of updating a synths OS is complete crap.

I have tried this for so many hours now, and I have decided to give up. I will stick with the old OS.

I thought that I had bought a top quality piece of equipment, but I must say that I am greatly disappointed. And don't come blaming the PC, the DAW or the MIDI interface. The PROBLEM is the design choice of using the MIDI protocol and SysEx to update the OS. It is just not good enough on a synth in this price range.
