Knobs as Master for Multi

I use my Virus for live gigs rather than integrated with a DAW. You can set the knob mode for multi's to have them edit global values for the whole multi from the top screen. (I know I'm describing this funny but I figure you either know what I mean or don't. I'm not that familiar with it myself. Anyway...) I can fat-finger the patch selection button every once in a while so simplifying button presses makes sense. I used to have a DSI Tetr4 that had a similar feature that was pretty cool and at the same time, pretty problematic. While I'm messing around with this feature, does anyone have any experience with it or want to suggest best practices?
