DS, I picked a Boss DR880 up a couple of days ago. It was going for ?200 new at my local store so I thought why not. Looks like the machinedrum is on ice for the time-being though.
The build quality on it isn't good - plastic and rubber keys and the unit is quite light but the sounds are brilliant, really clear and professional sounding. I'm using it as an alternative to samples in Battery and for this purpose it is so much better. You have a kit but then you can cycle through the library of snares, kicks e.t.c to pick the instruments you want to create a custom kit. You can't help thinking though if Boss just went that mile extra and paid more attention to build quality, UI and extended it a bit they could produce a proper powerhouse.
