It's intentional. For example in many analog oscillators the postive peak voltage isn't the same as the negative peak voltage since there's always little bit voltage drifting.

At some point Ill record the saw waves off the Jupiter 8 and Prophrt 5 if u like. Maybe the Monopoly too.

Would a little .wav file be ok mto send to u then u could that Logic wave thingy on it and see the waves.....cos I dont have that.

Excellent thread r3dnaX! Why didn't I think if this, I am a complete wave-nut!
Judging by looking at the saws from those VA's, I think the Supernova II saw looks best.

I recorded some clean saws from the Roland D-50, C1-C5, and discovered some strange waves:

The lower the note, the more power to the down-cycle, C1 is very extreme! Also, at C5 the saw gets inverted? The D-50 is one strange synth, it's not a analog synth though but the wave looks very nice to me.

I'll record some saws from the Elka Synthex too. It's not quite analog and not quite Digital, but it sure sound good

Per.....what makes a 'good' saw wave? What does a good one look like? In what way do u think VA saw waves are different from that of analog? Is there any difference?

lets say you have an oscilator.
if you will pass it the same oscilator thru two different kinds of filters
will the waveform still look the same?

I doubt it. Perhaps if it's a digital filter. When you open a digital filter I don't think it will have any impact on the wave but with an analog filter the sound still runs through the filter circuit. Just a guess.

I can make you a SH101 saw wave if you like? I think the 101 saw sounds very close to the Virus saw but they might look different...

EDIT: OK i just made the "test" myself. I don't have a place to upload a pic. but its easy to explain. The 101 sawwave looks alot the the ION's. The positive and negative range is, unlike the Virus, almost identical. The "link" between the fall is not staigt but a tiny bit bended (upward).
