Sounds like a crap cable to me, it's a 75ohm SPDIF cable, right, not a standard RCA?

Well, if the TI is the master clock and your soundcard the slave, you don't need 2 digital cables, just simply connect the spdif out of the TI in the spdif in
of your soundcard, go to your soundcards menu and select spdif as the sync source. From the TI config select the internal clock and switch between 44.1 and 48 khz. If your soundcard responds to the TI's clock changes then launch
cubase, go to device setup and in the vst audiobay select spdif as the sync source. The default setting is internal.
This configuration works very solid for me and my TI so far but it's not the ideal configuration, the TI needs to stay on even if you don't need to and you have to switch it on before your pc boots but I can enjoy my TI almost without annoying clicks, arp drifts and satans saws.

diy: Many, many thanks for this!

One last question: Are you able to use VC with the USB Cable when SPDIF is connected?

My problem previously was that I had the sync card enabled on the emu 1820m but since its disabled I have no issues whatsoever.

Thanks

I haven't tested the usb+ spdif yet mate , but as far as I know in usb mode the sync is over usb, so you can work with VC. This question should be answered in the virus manual which is one of the crappiest I've ever seen.
Can anybody answer the above question please?
Sounds weird, but access thinks that every user should connect the TI via usb and virus control. Working in the standard midi way gives me much less headaches, but this is my personal opinion.

For what its worth I found my TI more stable when it was my sound card.

But this is hardly any solution as my real soundcard is a FW1814, which is the muts nuts.

You may want to share this on the Access mailing list. Ben Crosland and others post to it. See:

Makes complete sense for mostly soft synth based producers for whom the Virus TI is the only hardware synth.

I do wish the midi ports would stay active when VC is started.

I agree. If you have the keyboard then it's ok, you can play even with VC. But if you have the desktop, it means that you have to buy an additional midi interface beacuse the TI's "advertised" midi is disabled. Thats the so called integrated laptop studio....
