Default Virus B Basics

Hi Guys,

Brand new here (and a Virus B owner as of yesterday) - so apologies if this was posted somewhere (and I'm sure it has been). Just got few simple questions.

1- is 4.9 the latest version of firmware for this model?.
2- What integration plugins can I use with it? (I'm on LIVE9 on Mac Yosemite)
3- Good place to buy patches?

Thank you very much!I love this synth completely blown away with the quality of the sound and possibilities!

After some more research online and this forum I guess i can answer some of my own questions. But please if someone can chime in Id really appreciate it.

Thank you

1- I see 4.90 rev 50 as the last version for the firmware on Virus B

2- I found 2 different Plugins for integration - Mystery Islands, Rekon (are there more?) anyone can recommend one ?

3- Found tons of patches on access website (does patches from A or C work on b?)

Hi there!

I had an Indigo a while back. Yes, you can use Virus A,B, and C patches on the B. I am pretty sure you can also use Ti patches that are using the classic oscillators. The extras in the patch will be ignored (For instance, the virus C includes an eq, this would be ignored if the patch is loaded on a B)

There are quite a few great patches around
I like the Vengeance-Sound.de patches myself, even if they sound a bit dated.

Your best bet is to browse the presets and determine what you like. Most well known sound designers will place their initials in the patch name. I am partial to Howard Scarr patches myself.

Thanks for your response!, good to know about patching being compatible.

I also checked out Vengeance site. I guess they are somewhat good but the trance demo just turns me off. i make ambient, minimal, techno type of stuff. Im sure i could use some stuff, but those demos ....

Do you have any experience with integration plugins?

Hello and welcome!

From my experience, the best editors are (in no particular order) the mystery islands one and the one from solar 3d - both are similarly priced.

I have the solar 3d (since it was available before) and thinking of getting the later for my laptop as well. Have tried the demo, the developer shows up on this very forum and listens (even to me who've just tried his demo version). In both situations, to be honest, I believe you'll do more then fine

How are you liking your new machine? Cheers
