Default Virus KC to TI upgrade, is it worht it ? or....

I recently played the Virus TI keyboard at a retail store (just for a few minutes, via headphones, during which, it crashed a few times, I guess it had a very early OS, with lots of bugs, plus, it was not connected to anything, so imagine if it was , this was kind of a fast and crude auditioning of the TI, not a serious evaluation).

I own a Virus KC, and honestly, I felt the difference was not that big as far as the overall sound quality, and character, basically similar to the KC, but more polyphony, independent Rev/delay effects per part, the wavetable sounds were nice, but not a big Wow factor to my ears.

So, here is the deal, with the option to upgrade my KC (I have to sell it at a reduced price, and spend more money, to get a kind of similar sounding Virus TI). Bottom line, Is it worth it to upgrade from a KC to a TI ?

My other option is to keep the Virus KC, use it for one two parts, with sounds that I really like, with the effects, and then use my Virtual Software synths for many other parts (more like having Total Integration from my other SW synths !

I have (Albino 2, Blue, CS-80V, Atmosphere, Stylus RMX, Trilogy, and all the Logic Pro 7.1 virtual Synths).

Finally, I could consider a second HW synth in the future, but currently I am not sure which synth would make a good complement to the Virus KC ? I Could consider the Alesis 'Andromeda' (real analog) but not sure about this one, plus an expensive option, unless it is really worth the price, any other suggestions ?

Or Should I just upgrade to the TI ? I think Access is currently working very hard to finally provide TI customers with a stable, bug free and tightly written OS that will finally deliver Total Integration as it had planned from day one of the TI concept ? Any Advice ?.... Any feedback from former Virus C, or KC users that upgraded to the TI ? is it much better now, more stable, and how good is the Integration with your DAW so far, the sound quality/synthesis capabilities ?

Thanks.

Hello,
grs essentially nailed the reasons I would upgrade in this post http://www.sunesha.nu/virusforum/vie...565&highlight=
If you have a good relationship with your distributor, perhaps they can let you take one home for a night and really give it a go.

- Virus Control
- Increased Polyphony
- Efx on all parts
- Hypersaw etc.

Hi Doc Jones,

Thanks for some feedback, I am not sure, but did you own a KC ? or other Virus product ? are you buying a TI as your first Virus synth ? Do you have any experience with the TI, or C series ?

Yes, all the added specs of the TI are nice to have, but in reality, without the TI part, the KC is not too different from the TI, as far as what kind of sounds it can deliver.

So, upgrading from a KC to a TI is not such an easy decision for me.

Plus, if I decide to upgrade to the TI, I will only do so when the TI is completely bug free, and nicely integrated with Logic Pro 7.1, I don't plan to waste my time with frustrations due to bugs that Access should have fixed, I think they rushed the release of the TI, more beta and alpha testing were needed before the release, not after

Cheers.

I have a VC and although I think the TI is a very nice synth, I won't be upgrading.

I just couldn't let myself spend the money for the extras the TI would give. There is a want factor, but when I think about the money I would need (even after selling my VC), I realize buying other gear is a better option (for me and my music that is).

It's a personal thing I guess.

I actually had owned a virus c previously and was offered a very good deal where I was actually able to sell my c for just about the same amount I bought it for and then upgrade to the TI for just about $400.00 more. So I couldn't pass up on it. That plus the fact that I am not the best tweaker when it comes to analog synths I wanted the visual aspect of the VC to complement the new features of the TI. I think it is a very smart move waiting for the TI to be bug free before upgrading to it. It's getting there, but definitely still needs some work.

Now for that sort of cash I can definitely understand upgrading.
For me to upgrade, I'd be looking at about $1500 change over!

Mmmm, that's a MS-20, SH-101, Sherman filter bank and then with the money left over I'd take a trip into Tokyo for a few days! Na I won't be upgrading.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Upgrading from a Virus KC to the TI (once it is bug free) is very tempting, but, I think that having the Virus KC has given me access to the great sounds a Virus Synth can produce, so maybe my ears are in need for a bit of a new color/flavor of synthetic sounds. It also makes musical sense to have additional flavors to work with.

Currently I am not crazy about anything on the Virtual Analog Synth. marketplace (except for the Virus TI, and my KC), another thing to remember is that the Winter 2006 NAMM Show is right around the corner, so who knows what Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Nord, Novation, and other companies would offer, I will be watching any new developments closely during the Winter 2006 NAMM show.

Well, I might eventually go for the Virus TI keyboard, especially if nothing better shows up during the Winter 2006 NAMM show, but sometimes being a bit slow to react, and a bit patient pays off.

I am still in love with my Virus KC, and would not mind a new flavored HW Synth to add to the KC if the sounds are to my taste, especially if it has a lot of great features (maybe more HW synths with SW integration will show up, we shall see).

It's good to hear that the newest Virus TI version 1.07 OS is beginning to look more promising, and allowing some TI owners to finally begin making music with the very cool Total Integration concept, I am happy to hear that.

The TI should be a lot of fun to work with, Enjoy !
