Default 98 - 2000 Trance Sound (Not supersaw!)

No not another supersaw post

This is a more mellow sound which ive heard in many dance/trance tracks from 98-2000.
I think it could have been a virus or similar. Maybe even a preset from around that time?

Ive attached an audio sample. Its the sound underneath the main lead synth and which starts 11 seconds into the sample.

Any help making this on my Virus KB or even info on other tracks, producers using it will be really appreciated.

btw sorry for the sendspace link, i had to do that because the forum wouldnt let me attach the mp3

Thanks

It's a sort of flutey pad you can do with almost any synthesizer. Try with pulse oscillators, big amount of detune and a filter envelope with fast decay, then long automation that opens the filter cutoff for the uplift.

That's the midi of the sequence!

I was actually trying something with detuned squares and lfo movement on pitch to get that wobbly effect yet it still sounded different.

Could have just been that i wasnt playing the same midi sequence though. I'll try that midi file and see if it helps. Thanks
