Default DX7 worth getting?

There's a DX7 going cheap in a shop near me and was wondering what people think to it. I've heard it's a classic but can anyone give any examples of well known tunes it's been used in. The guy at the shop is going to let me on it this weekend.

Cheers in advance.

That's it, why bother getting an actual DX7 when a G2 modular could probably do DX7 stuff anyway. I'm just curious.

the accual dx7 is almost unprogramble without its performer editor.
if your not into spending few months of fegure out how to use a user manu you wont accualy bother to get into it and just use presets..

i would pass it...
better geting a g2

In addition to all the other issues DX7 transmits velocity only up to 100.

I've heard people argue that the outputs are warmer on a real DX7, but as cold and harsh sounds are what they do best, why would people want the warmer outs anyway?!

The programability is great on the FM7 when compared to the DX, plus the FM7 does cold and harsh very well to my ears.

I'd pass, unless it's much cheaper than a copy of FM7 (and I mean much cheaper!).

its a 100% digital synth
so how can you expect warmness from it?
you dont accualy want warmness from it,you want as you said hallow harse digital sounds.

anyway full programibillity comprering to a minor thing,
i would choose programbillity.

good day

FM7 is one of the best sounding digital softsynths. Good user interface and VERY nice presets.

However, the original DX7 does sound subjectively better. The original has a slightly warmer tone, a little fatter....and is ALOT more dirty (particulary the Mki's....not so much on the MKii's). Yes, programming is a bitch....but to be honest there are so many good DX patches floating around...I'd just buy it as a preset synth. Always run FM sounds through decent FX...otheriwse they sound pretty dull/boring.

Some people hate Fm sounds.....I dont know why! 80's music is basically DX7! From the mid 80's analog synths featured less. There is nothing quite like listening to a song that uses DX bass and synth guitar...Jupiter brass and P5 strings.

But, those synths defined the 80's.....VA's define the 90's, 00's.....so its all relative. Hence i wanna get the Ti and keep it in mint condition...one day my kids will play on it hehe

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....
