Default Designing a sound similar to this?

I've been tweaking with the Virus all day and I've been thinking about possibilities.

I came across a great Dubstep track from a producer called Bar 9 ... here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJlo0hWnZWc

I'm not asking the "How do I do this" question, but a "Am I thinking right" question.

If you take a short listen to that track (sorry if you don't like the genre, hold with me here) and then check.

I'm positive there is more than one bass running there, to get the effect the bass is changing. I can also here some 16 bit effects.

Is there some sort of LFO going on or is it the Filter Envelope? It sounds as if the key is being held down and the longer its held the more of that LFO wobble effect you get (its a fast wobble).

Also, I can here the pitch being changed on the bass. Is it possible to automate the pitch (not the semitone/detune).

Curiosity is telling me it's possible to recreate something similar using one patch and a lot automation. And only out of curiosity and I am going to attempt to create something similar.

I feel recreating certain sounds you like helps you become a better (whats the word) .... synth engineer? lol.

Any advice is much appreciated. Of course, I will share the patch created and I'm wiling to spend as long as it takes in an effort to learn the Virus.

Default

i'm guessing that it can be done both ways....by automating and by using a second synth patch/channel, layer sort of thing...

afterall all the patches come out of that same synth...so u can actually morph from one patch to the other by automating various parameters...for example I can change from a saw to a square at the fourth beat of the bar..and for the first 3 beats, have it on a saw...similarly i could automate pitch or any other parameter...so i could be on an entirely different sounding patch on only the fourth beat of that bar.....or I could play 3 beats with one instance/part of the synth and the 4th beat with another part or channel of the virus...

its just different ways of doing the same thing....whatever method suits you...

thats an interesting bass sound in that track....dont know how the patch is made....like the sound though...
