Then stop using it. I think I'll keep it up, though. A lot of people take offense to what I say...I think they just get too easily offended. Like most people, I have friends who are 'actually' gay, and when they do something stupid, I call them gay 'in the derogatory way' all the time. By the same token, when I say/do something stupid, one of them always says, "You are so NOT gay!"
The term has changed enough that it's not a reflection of ill-will towards homosexuals, and if a person isn't big enough to grasp that...well, he's gay. Stripped of a context of hate and prejudice, it no longer becomes a harmful word. It's only when a bigoted idiot starts mouthing off about his prejudices that we need worry, and obviously this isn't one of those times.
