Default Ableton and VC delay compensation

Anybody figured out who is to blame?
I know for sure Ableton treats every plugin in a different way in terms of PDC...
I'm testing VC in every new release and still no joy...
Tried every combination imaginable as:
44.1-48-96Khz sampling rates
lowest buffer settings on my MOTU 828MKII (128buffer@96Khz=2ms)
LIVE button on & Off...
Try it for yourself and you'll see what i mean:

--Open a new Live set
--Load some Midi clip drums from Live's default library
--Load VC in another Midi channel(try LIVE button both on & off)
--Start playing midi clip
--Start switching on & off at a constant rate record enable button on midi clip

Do you here something?
Maybe like something's cutting/clicking the drums
Well guess what...
That's the PDC thingy goin on
Of course with LIVE button enabled it's not so noticable but not perfect

--Now try to delete VC track and try again the switching

Do you hear something?
NOP...Everything's fine now...
Tried the switching thing with other VST's also...
Some of them where PDC problem free some not...

This is the only reason i don't want to use VC...
Now i only use Virus in stand alone mode

you're to blame. switching record button can involve switching latency. you are forcing ableton to pick up the data somewhere else in the audio, therefore you can get clicks.

the reason you might hear it is that virus control has larger latency setting than most pure softsynths.

don't whack around, just use it...

I work with foot pedal not with my hands mate...
So when switching from track to track you can hear shit like that on stage...
Guess i'll stick to good old fashion midi stylie...

Have you tried updating to Virus|Control 2.7.5? I've seen a few reports of that update where users say that fixed latency issues in Live.

Red face

Yeap already upgraded to 2.7.5 but clicking still occurs...
Anyway,i've send my question to customer support and got this:

"I'm not sure if I understand. There's no way you can get the TI to play back in time without the PDC being activated. And this won't change at all due to the technology being in use: the TI is an external device that is integrated into a sequencer like Live and it is not an internal PlugIn being calculated on the CPU of a computer.
There's no way the TI will work without PDC"

Well,i know about the PDC thing but i think it's possible to fine adjust a little bit more the LIVE button on VC so that clicking dissapears for good...

Here is my solution. I use VC since v2 without any problems. No additional Sound cards (virus ASIO) and I love it! Yep.
First at all you need to configure your pc correctly. So, windows xp sp2 without any additional drivers (Windows DAW edition only necessary drivers (vga, mb and virus drivers).
When I record tracks on Virus with VC, I always SWITCH OFF DELAY COMPENSATION and CHANGE OUTPUT under COMMON (in VC) to PHYSICAL OUT 1. TURN ON "LIVE" BUTTON IN VC. Now you can record without any delays. After recording CHANGE OUTPUT to USB1 (under COMMON in VC), TURN ON DELAY COMPENSATION and TURN OFF "LIVE" in VC. Now you need to resample this track. Create AUDIO track and change input recording for RESAMPLE. Now record you track from Virus to audio. That's it. Repeat those steps to record another track. Maybe it's sounds complicated, but believe me, this setup changes will take you 5 sec. Enjoy.

Thanx 4 ur reply leszczu,

You see i already have the setup you've mentioned...My PC is tweaked to the max!!!
To understand the situation, here is the message i've send to customer support:

"Hi Joerg,
It would be great though if you could just adjust the latency settings a bit more when LIVE button is enabled so that clicking dissapears totally. You see i work with a midi foot pedal(imagine Kid Beyond style)and switching from track to track brings that clicking.Of course with LIVE button enabled things are better but not perfect. My question has to do with this perfection..So sorry if i'm asking too much...
Thanx for the support
Yorgos"

and the answer:

"Dear Yorgos,
Thank you for your email. What we already tried to implement with the "Live" button is already the maximum possible. I can only repeat what I stated already in my first email: what we do here with integrating a hardware synthesizer in a software environment is anything but trivial."

So,conclusion comes to this...
If you play with your Virus on stage Kid Beyond Style use it in a good old Midi
fashion way

Cheers!

Yorgos
