Default Worth swapping?

Yo ppl

Anyone here thinking of selling their virus and replacing it with a Powercore card & a powercore virus?

I usually only use 1 or sometimes 2 sounds at once from my virus. But then again, do i really want to swap 32 voices for 16? How about my virus sounds...do they work on the Powercore virus, and what happens when i use all 3 osc, do I end up with only 4 voices since the virus c sometimes only has 8 voices when using the 3rd osc ??? Instances, is that the same as parts? I guess im quite lost hmmm

That might be a good idea if you don't feel that you need a hardware UI. Clicking on the screen with your mouse isn't as nice as programming on the interface.

And Virus' polyphony never drop on 8. There's a note on Access' site: "when all oscillators are in use, polyphony may decrease, but not by more than 6 voices". So on C model the polyphony will drop to 26.

I think the polyphony isn't the issue with the Powercore DSP. It depends more on the UI and your working habits. If you like point and click programming and make all/most of effecting on computer, then Powercore is for you. Otherwise don't bother.

Thx Juho, good point about the interface issue. It sure is a pain in the butt trying to program sounds with the mouse. Do you know if my virus c patches work with the powercore?

Your patches will sound identical on the Virus PowerCore unless you have made use of the EQs and/or the new Analog Filter. If you only use a couple of sounds at a time, polyphony might not be such an issue - but of course the same rules apply with regard to Osc3 and Unison Mode. If you go for the license extension you would get 16 voices per DSP (64 on one PowerCore), and some careful revoicing of chords across different DSPs using the same patch would mean that you could theoretically achieve a bigger, fatter sound than is possible even with the C..

Hmm... Isn't that Powercore Virus identical to the C series?

Nope - the Powercore Virus is based on the Virus B. I asked them as I am interested inb swapping over - I have a rack XL and would appreciate having less menus to scroll through. I might buy it anyway and see if it is good enough to sell the XL.

In summary;

Based on the Virus B
Patches are interchangeable - Patches used on the hardware synth can be used on the software one.

Then you would have to give away the new filters and that splendid extended mod matrix + additional oscillator. I wouldn't change!

According to access comp chart the powercore virus has 3 osc. The eq i can do without but i wanna keep my filters. Any chance of new os on the virus powercore?

LOL It hasn't even been released yet, and you're asking for a new OS?!

I think the fact that there is a reduced voice count from that of the Virus B makes it quite unlikely that we'll ever see the new filters in the PowerCore. Remember they take alot of processing power even in the C - using them has the same effect on polyphony as Unison Twin Mode.

Yes, it does. But Virus B 3rd oscillator is very limited. I think C has completely independent 3rd oscillator.
