Default Is this a Problem? LCD Screen on a VC.

its started to get a little colder here in Japan. and i have noticed when i first turn the VC on, then flick through patches quickly, the screen kind of stalls between them...after about 2 or 3 minutes when flicking through the patches, the change over is really sharp!

im guessing the LCD needs to warm up....but none of my other gear does this (but none of my other gear uses a red screen either)....

do any fo you other guys have the same experience? specially those of you in the colder places of the world.

How cold is cold?

In Melbourne recently its been falling to around 5C overnight, and I haven't noticed anything unusual.

Yesterday it was 25C and I didn't really want to switch on the virus in such temperature

getting down to about 14 or 15 degrees C....

its been summer here, and i didnt notice it at all then..35 degrees C with 90% humidity on some days....worked fine...

its only for the first 2 or 3 mins...the screen when i first turn it on seems like it still displays the last item on the screen for a little longer than it should....for example: if i turn a cutoff knob, then while cutoff is displayed i turn the reso knob, and there is like a ghost image or something....same goes when switching patches too...

after a few mins the thing is fine!?! the screen changes from parametres really quickly with no ghosting...

mmmm...

hopefully someone can tell me bout this...

its not such a problem at the moment, but if it gets worse in winter (-4 or -5 degrees C), it will be anoying having to wait for an LCD to warm up...like an old TV or something...

No, no, no. Don't bother.

LCD display gets "slow" when the temperature drops, i.e. the characters fade slowly instead of vanishing immediately as usual. The backlight of the display warms up the LCD module in few minutes and that explains why the display works fine after a while.

Edit: Usually LCD's get slow in really low temperatures 10c and below, but because VC has a non-standard red display the temperature ranges may differ from the basic green LCD and in this case the display is more sensitive to low temperatures.

yeh i rekon so too....maybe the red display has different temp threshholds.....so i havent noticed it with n e other stuff....i just hope the life is as good as other colour screens!!

ive noticed another thing too....the screen gets really warm...more than n e others in n e gear ive used....the VC is a special little beast i guess!! it better last the distance!!

by the way juho....-30 is fucking cold!! i dont really know much about finland, do u guys have n e mountains close by to where u live...ever hit the slopes?? although -30 u may as well use iceskates on the mountains rather than a board!

Depends on the method of backlight. Electroluminence backlights get really hot when LED backlights are just slighty warm. There's nothing wrong with your LCD. It's just non-standard display, so it differs a bit from others.

It is bloody cold. Good thing that usually few days of a year are that cold. Usually between -10c and -20c.

Mountains and Finland don't mix. No mountains in here. Just few hills and that's it. But there are arctic hills in the northern parts.

I've been to Halti few times (one of the biggest arctic hills) skiing. I'm more traditional skier than mountain skier.
