Default Interresting LFO Phase Question

In the mailing list, someone asked an interresting question. I recreated his experiment and got the same result and hence the same unanswered questions... Noone in the list replied yet, so probably someone here knows the answer...

Here's the text copied of the list (I hope I won't have no copyright issues )

-------------

Dear List,
this is the third time I tried to find out what the "LFO Phase" function in the Unison Menu does. The manual sais, that this function does shift the initial phase of the LFOs. However, in my experiments, it didn't do something like this at all but just nothing. I'm confused and wanna ask the dear list whether my results are true or whether there was a mistake or whatever...

My experiment starting from the INIT Patch:
-LFO1 shape to Pulse
-LFO1 contour -63
-LFO1 mode "Poly"
-LFO1 trigger phase off
-LFO1 Assign: Osc Volume
-LFO1 Assign Amount 64
-Amp Enf Attack 0
-Filter Env Release 0
-Amp Env Release 0
-----> Now you've got a free running LFO1 that is triggering a short spike of signal
-Unison Voices 2 or more
-Unison Detune doesn't matter
-Pan Spread doesn't matter

I always get two LFOs of which the phase is set independant of the "LFO Phase" function in the LFO Menu. One is free running and assigned to one unison voice, the other's phase is set randomly and belongs to all the other unison voices...

Why does the "LFO Phase" function not affect anything??

Kind regards!

Try to set the LFO trigger to zero, so that the it starts from the beginning on trigger. Then set twin unison and tweak the unison LFO phase. This should change the LFO trigger value of the unison sound. I bet it goes like this:

Base LFO trig: 0
Unison LFO phase: 16

Unison mode: 4

The LFO trig values of the voices:
Base: 0
Second: 16
Third: 32
Fourth: 46

Edit: I believe the LFO phase unison function does not affect anything if the LFO's are free-running.

Thanks for your reply Juho. If I set the LFO Phase to a value other than free, all the unison LFOs just start at exactly the same point, the LFO Phase function doesn't affect anything... I did the same experiment again but with the difference that I set the LFO's trigger phase to "1"...

Hmm... I can bet my arm that I figured out this LFO phase issue and used the method on one unison sweeper sound... Damn. I think I could figure it out in few secs if I'd have Virus at hand.
