Default Altiverb..........holy s***

Well, I downloaded the Altiverb demo from audioease. I've been reading so much about sample-based reverbs, but hadn't used one until tonight. I generally use Waves plug-ins for almost everything. So when company's come out with single plug-ins that cost $500.00, I have to admit I raise my eyebrows each time I see one (Altiverb, Emagic's Space Designer, and now there's another one, too). Who could be retarded enough to spend that much on a reverb plug???

After tonight's experience I know the answer: ME. ME ME ME ME ME ME ME. Have to have it, gotta have it, need to have it, sell my blood to have it! You guys have to listen to this. It's amazing....I had my guitarist listen to it, he was like "Yeah, another plug-in..." while he was putting on the headphones. As soon as I hit play, his eyes opened up wide and he said, "HOLY SH*T! How much did you say this costs? We've gotta get it."

So, to anyone with a G4 or G5 Mac, you really have to check it out. It has been sending chills up my spine all night

I`d rather wait for the new convolution reverb plugins from tascam and waves to be released. But this altiverb is looks good. But there is free convolution reverb units available aswell.

They sample a short burst of sound in the enviroment. Sample it. Then when you load it in to the plugin it lets you have the same reverb properties of that location.

Well, waves always comes out with nice stuff, and their convolution reverb is slated to hit the market in February; but it's $700.00. And there are already so many great sounding impulse responses for altiverb; I can't see a reason to go another route. The new Computer Music calls Altiverb the best sounding reverb out there, hard or soft....

Sounds like the reverb kicks ass, but i tell u what i wont buy a mac just to run reverb...heck what i plan to do is by some sequencers and good digital mixer and some outboard FX and get rid of most of my computing all together...just us it to record...Im just sick of computers...and yeah im bitching...

but it sounds cool...

peace

I don't either like software plugins. Average plugins don't sound very good and the better ones take so much CPU power that you can hardly do anything else on that computer. A big mixer with flexible BUS'es + good FX processors is the best option. For example TC-reverbs are so good that you really don't need better than those ones. Only plugins that I see fit to use are mastering plugins like compressors etc.

Edit: But of course this is a money issue. I wish I could afford that but not unless I win in three millions in a lottery.
