hi guys, picked up my redback during the weekend and i think im in love with it already, however i didnt get any cabes with it apart from the power cable. Ive got a m audio audiophile 2497 which has midi in and midi out cables with it, do i just get to midi cables then and plug them into the in and out on my virus then? im using sx2 BTW. also do i need male to male or male to female?

cheers, matt.

MIDI carries instructions, not audio.

I'm not sure what connectors you have on the Audiophile (maybe phono?). You have 1/4" mono connectors on the Virus side.

Therefore you need mono 1/4" to mono phono cables, two of them.

If your Audiophile has 1/4" connectors, you need mono 1/4" to mono 1/4" cables (again, two of them).

Also make sure the software for your Audiophile sees the inputs as "unbalanced" (not needed in the case of phono inputs).

Sorry about that, I misread.

There's mainly one type of connector-jack for midi cables, which is a 5-pin DIN (male) with a 180degree pin configuration (although you don't really need to know this, as everyone will know what you're talking about when you simply say a "Midi cable"). Midi cables have this connector on both ends.

(However, occasionally if it's a PCI soundcard without a breakout box, then an old style "joystick" type connector is sometimes used.)

If your Audiophile uses the standard 5-pin DIN connectors, you'll need two identical Midi cables. (5-pin DIN male jacks on both ends).

The Midi In of the Virus goes to the Midi Out of the Audiophile, and the Midi Out of the Virus goes into the Midi In of the Audiophile.
