Default Could someone please explain how to get this effect? (sample inside!)

Hi,

Could someone please explain how to get this effect?
http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/20087433/file.html

Seems like the sound is pitching up or filtering up?
Maybe someone here could try to recreate this sound/effect?
Thanks in advance!

There seems to be two things here: one is probably a screaming filter, so you need to use one with a self-oscilating resonance (analogue filters on the virus). And the second thing is distortion, in this case some sort of bit crusher (rate reduction on the virus). The attack part of this sound sounds almost like a distorted percussion sound to me, you can make those with some very fast modulation of pitch with the filter envelope, and a fair amount of filter modulation as well - with enough resonance you mix the filter's oscilation with the one of the oscilator, can add noise for sparkle, etc... The screaming sound that comes next would be better achieved with the screaming filter, and some kind of modulation on the amount of distortion, 'cause as you can see, while you play with it the tone changes, and the amount of grit, so you can play with that, and chorus even (works great for vocal tones) and some reverb with a big tail. The second part of the sound sounds almots like a super sized reflection of the fast hitting percurssive one to me... So play with it and have fun! Hope this helps
