I think DS had alot of problems with his KC, and also, dont forget that DS has alot of experience with TRUE ANALOGUES......when comparing a VA with a true analogue synth, then the things that he said there are almost certainley true.

Well I was having a particularly bad day when I said those things....but I still stand by those sentiments....in my opinion they are fundementally true....

Let me set the record straight. The Virus is a fine synth if you have about 3 other keyboards covering different duties. The Virus' strongest point is its ability to create nice evloving pads/soundscapes/fx. Apart from that...I have no other use for it - hence my opinion that it was an expensive mistake (given the shitty resale value). Honestly at one point I was thinking of picking up the 'Atmosphere' softsynth and using a couple of analog mono's and be done with it. Here, check out this atmosphere demo http://files.spectrasonics.net/mp3/A...e-memories.mp3 (all sounds are atmosphere except female voice).

Check out Atmosphere here... http://www.spectrasonics.net/instrum...tmosphere.html

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....

DS: Atmosphere is OK but sample based. Not incredibly flexible.

Still a very nice product and not too expensive!

Hey DS, name me one synth that doesn't need the help of other keyboards or softsynths... and that contains EVERYTHING you need for your production.

what do you think? ...Andromeda? ....Nord lead3?....or maybe a motif? I have listened to all kinds of synths and figured that you ALWAYS need more than one synth to play God. The virus hasn't got the screamy character of other synths - and that's the point, it IS different - but it surely has a character of its own... It doesn't try to immitate something else, like tons of vsti's do.... it has a unique character in that same level like nords, minimoogs and other well known, digital or analogue synths.

What I can't understand is that, despite of your knowledge on synths, you try to find a synth that "does it all", like a newbie does... and of course the virus can't do everything, but which other synth does

Regarding Atmosphere, I find it very dull, low-quality and low-sampled. Would you honnestly compare it to the string section of a virus?

I try not to be ironic, and sorry if I am, but I would prefer a synth expert and "80s salesperson" to talk with facts or taste and not with "The xxxxx synth is a fine synth if you have about 3 other keyboards covering different duties" sort of statements. This is mostly the opinion of untalented people that don't admit that it's not the fault of the setup they can't produce good music - where I work I hear this from lots of people.... and of course I know others that compose brilliant music using sound canvas.

So if you just mean that "you don't like the sound of the virus", I'm honnestly perfectly covered. Different taste - different opinion!
...but still I could name tons of other synths that are worse than the virus.... Don't you?

Cheers

P.S. : I am a sound designer/engineer/mixer in film and post production and I don't call myself a musician. Regarding my demos that I've made with minimal equipment at that time, I'm very proud of them, but I can't reach the pro-level. but still, it isn't my Alesis QS6's fault.
