Default recording arpeggiator-output in logic ?

hi, i?m new to this board, as i?ve never had any virus issues using cubase vst and sx 1-3.
however, sometimes i have to work with logic7 and there it seems not at all obvious how to set it up so i?d be able to trigger the virus(b) from a logic track and at the same time record the arpeggiators output to another logictrack (without causing a midiloop). i can?t imagine that this ain?t possible given the "flexible" environment possibilities

any hint would be most welcome.

thanks

cb

if i understand what you are trying to do, why not just assign the output of the arp to a bus track, and then assign the input of another track to the bus. Either use a bus or an input track (if you are going to record midi cc's). Hopefully I understood what you are saying.

sorry, maybe i haven?t been clear enough.
i was talking about midi. the virus has the option to output
it?s arpeggiator-performance as midi notes, which you then can record on a miditrack in a sequencer. then you can manipulate and playback
this stuff from your sequencer (with arpeggiator off in virus).

anyway, i found a way to do that in logic:

create a "input notes" - track (Clicks & Ports)
i couldn?t found it referenced in the manuals but this kind of track
does exactly what i want. basically it let?s you record any midi from all midiinputs to a new miditrack without outputting anywhere and thus avoiding midi loopbacks.

thanks for the tip, will have to give it a go myself. It is wierd that the standard audio instrument track assigned to the virus does not record arps as individual midi notes. It does for my V-synths arp.

When it records notation to your sequencer, does it also record the sys-ex info too?

Just re-read my question and realized I should make it more clear....

What I meant was, when you trigger the appegiator, does the sys-ex that's included within the particular appegiator patern, get transmitted along with the notation data to the sequencer?

For example, just say you've recorded a appeg line from the V-synth that has pitch shifting included within the appeg patern itself. Then you use that same recorded midi file to play another V-synth patch - does the pitch shifting (or what ever V-synth attribute) affect the new sound?

Hope that's clearer..... 8O

EDIT* Sorry for the thread highjack clueblast. Welcome to the forum too by the way.

Yes it does. As long as I am using a controller that is transmitting sysex or midi CC. On the V, only the Time trip pad, D beam and 2 asignable controls transmit sysex or midi CC (AFAIK so far).

Do the other knobs transmit anything then?

Just making sure....You can program the appegiator to effect the d-beams, timetrip and softknobs though can't you?

Dont know yet. I am having trouble setting it up with logic so far. From what i have read, some say you can tx from other knobs. But if this isnt the case, you can use the mod matrix to assign any parameter to DBEAM, TTpad, or 2 assignable knobs.
What is cool is that you can program the arp from the TTpad. In other words it will records notes from where you put your hand on the TTpad. I have come uip with some random whacky stuff doing this.
