Default are there VST's that can rival the V-synth

Hey guys was just wondering if you ever heard of anyone using stuff like Kontakt or Intakt live and connecting it such that it can get similar results like the V-synth. I mean, I love the v-synth and all (having finally figured out how to program the thing) but I think that there are far far better granular resampling synths out there on the computer... anyways, just wondering if anyone ever did what Im talking about. Ciao!

Yup, I checked out heaps of them before buying the V.
Although Kontakt does a reasonable job, the quality isn't quite as good as the V-Synth, plus there's also how quick it is to get results with the two. Absynth can get some V-Synthy like results too actually. The only one I didn't really work at was Reaktor - too much of a headfuck. I found the software versions seemed slow in getting results, plus I thought quality was sacrificed with - specially with real time formant stuff.

Although the V-Synth has it's quirks, there's nothing else that can touch it for hands on feel and quality of results.

Depends what your used to I reckon.

I guess I need to go hear a V-Synth at a local store.

Didn't HC post some samples from his?

HC is right about Reaktor as far as I'm concerned.

I frekkin' HATE the klunkiness of that shite software.

It's probably because I'm type-A, impatient, ADHD, and OCD.

Software synths are cool to me but are only part of the equation.

I jam so much more on my Motif ES Rack and Virus KC than with any soft synths.

I can turn on my Virus, Motif ES, mixer, and monitors in under one minute and go freakin' nuts.

Much faster than messing with my PC, Tracktion 2, etc, blech.

Yep sure did, and I still have them online at my Soundclick site if you'd like to listen (link in my signature there).

If you have nice sources to sample (and I definitely don't mean loops) they are an amazing machine - with a few quirks mind you.

hey hollowcell, how do you choose your sources for when you program the v-synth. I usually just take a bunch of instrumental loops and keymap them (Ive done that with jazz bass lines, drum and bass patterns, and even stuff from a string quartet).

I use the V-Synth more as a synth that's able to import any sort of OSC you like - if you choose loops, you are stuck with having to use variphrase, which is fine, but not always pleasing. Loops are fun, but it takes a fair bit of fildling to get them to work over more than a 2 or 3 octave range - formant keyfollow is good for this if you haven't tried it yet.

Like I said I like to use the V as a user OSC based synth/sampler. I like to have single toned, pretty straight waveforms from anything, then I get them seemlessly looping in wavelab (or sometimes I'll do the looping in the V itself). Then in the V-Synth I don't even have to turn variphrase on if I want, because the waves have no need for tempo syncing. It's more like using it as a conventional sampler, but the difference is that there are envelopes for everything, plus so much scope for tonal control, modualtion - plus it's just so fast and hands on to use!

Anyway good luck with it mate. It's not a box for everyone. Some people really get into it and others don't - I'm one of the ones who do.

Such a shame about Reaktor, great sound but the usability is a proper turn-off.

I tried Absynth as well, but the speed of creation won out for with the V-Synth. The sound is debatable as well actually.

I'd be interested in hearing a little absynth demo if you have created some patches there djeincode.

well i use absynth in just about every track i make, and there is no one disticnt sound to any of hte absynth patches. it can do everything from hard bass and pads to varios style sampling (granular sampling)

it even has an xy pad you can assign parameters to
