Default Sound layering anyone?

Hey, I'm starting to play with layering presets in multimode (in the same midi channel), and I would like to hear some suggestions from you guys, on little tricks and advices about that.

I know it's powerful to blend Virus and VSTs too, so anyone here it's a big fan of that technique?

i always layer my sounds, it gives it a more richer sound, but be careful not to phase as well.

Hi..Can You elaborate about avoiding Phasing ? How do You check this ? By ear or a vectroscope etc ?? Do You use EQ to Highpass and seperate sounds according to Bands of frequencies when You layer ??
More Information Please...

Thanks

I'm experimenting with 2 type of sounds:
the first is plucked and short, and it's layered on another with a longer release and a different timbre.

Only that approach can lead you to interesting and unlimited results.

Tell me your layering suggestions too...

Sometimes you can give insane amounts of depth to a pad by adding something like an arp'ed pluck or a texture type sound behind it with some delay and panning. If you have some synths (soft or hardware) that have good factory multi patches, load them up just so you can pick them apart and analyze what makes them good, then use that as a starting point idea to create a new one from two single patches that's your own without completely reinventing the wheel. After a while you'll start to notice a pattern in what types of harmonic combinations really work well.
