Default Using the virus with a compressor

Hey team,

So I am looking to buy a dbx 266xs compressor (anyone have experience with one?), and was wondering what exactly that is going to do to my setup...

The guy at GC didn't know anything about the virus but looked it up and said that I can PROBABLY run the outs of the virus into the compressor, back into the virus, then out to my monitors....

Is that the kind of thing you can set up in the "common" menu? Or am I going to have to break down and get a mixer?

Thanks!

Are you using the TI as your soundcard?

A mixer would be a better option according to me..u would have so many more routing options and also more flexibility overall ...u could use your compressor on the busses or main stereo outs, for example...

Honestly if I were you, I would get a soundcard to run with your DAW/PC(or mac), leave the TI to do its thing as the plugin, and just add the compressor as an out channel coming back in to your soundcards inputs (depending how many i/o you get). That way you can route audio about from your card from any channel in your sequencer to the compressor. Dont forget that with that mode you can also use the TIs physical outputs as well as the USB outs, to send to multiple channels of your sound card if you prefer to work that way. I have a MOTU ultralite mk3 and this is how I work, runs rock solid and means I can send audio about to my filterbank, mics, headphone sends for recording vocals or writing with multiple people etc etc.

Skip the hardware compressor ... you can invest in much more important things than that.

Do tell

And feedinggear could you recommend a sound card? Is the motu considered a sound card? Are interfaces and sound cards one in the same? I'm still shaking off some noobisms....
