There is no difference between the Virus Classic and the Virus b, save for the colour-scheme, the newly-selected preset library, the re-designed manual and the included 19" rack ears.

And FWIW - I'm not convinced that this will affect the price of a used b too badly. I mean I sold my b about 2 years ago now for ?600, which was an average price for one back then. By now, they can't really be fetching much more than ?530, and I think you will still be able to get about that - it's still ?300 less than a new Classic. Virus' have always held their value very well, and I don't why that shouldn't continue to be the case..

That, and when you buy the newer model you get a warentee, and its pristine and new.

Its there for new members to the Virus synth club, for which it is arguably a first or second synthesizer, and money is tight.

It's overkill painted in pretty colours!

A new synth with a quality of sound that matches the already well flooded (but great) Virus series please! Of course, only matching the quality and not the actual exact same sound .

Actually scratch that! How about just programming more new filters for the C series!

That new colour's offensive! I do hope the Waldorf boys haven't taken over the styling and aesthetics for Access!

Default Virus Classic Presets

I just bought a Virus b and was wondering if I could update my b with the new preset banks in the classic?

Thanks,

DK

You should be able to install banks A and B with no problem. Just download the OS for the Classic, and look for the abm.mid file in the Goodies folder.

I'm afraid you won't have much joy trying to install the ROM banks. Whilst the patches are compatible, they are installed using a sysex file similar in format to the OS itself. These files have a signature at the beginning which means they can only be accepted by that particular model.

Damn....the classic sounded so awesome. I was thinking I could just buy a Virus B and update the patches and have a classic.

Thanks...I'll look at the OS from the classic and grab the .mid file you mentioned.

Does anyone know what the main difference is between the virus B and the Classic?

THe brochure on the classic mentions it has the heart of the virus B, but that's it.

Hardware/software Differences....I understand my virus B won't be a classic, but why?

There is technically no difference between the two models - the specifications are exactly the same.
