Default [UNSOLVED] Virus C midi in problems

So.

Im using Ableton as my DAW
my midi interface is an Edirol UA 25

i have a midi controller plugged in via usb to my computer
and the interface is also plugged in via usb
the virus has a midi cable running from the "Midi in" on the virus
to the midi out on the interface.

so that is how my virus is connected.

basically i can see the midi being sent in and out of ableton to my interface
by the blinking light on the top right had corner of ableton

however the blinky 8th note im supposed to see on the virus does not show up when i play the keys.

the audio is working fine since i tested it via the "automation" on the virus

anyways here is a screen shot

I set the global channel to 1
the lopage and hipage are NOT set to SyseX
device ID is omni
midivolumne is disabled
softhru is off
panel is internal
clockRx is Auto

what am i missing?

Help is appreciated

also i tried a direct route between my controller and the virus
and still no midi was popping up in the virus

and i tried 2 midi cables which were brand new :/
